Our Series: We race in the National Auto Sport Association’s American Iron series. This is a series that brings back the memories of the Trans Am series from the late 60’s and early 70’s that made V8 Pony car muscle every boys dream! The series is made up of 7 regions across the country, each having their own list of events, and one big race in September for a National Championship. www.nasaproracing.com www.americanironracing.com www.nasatxracing.com Click on the above links for more information on the series and where to find the #97 car in 2009!

Our car: At the heart of every race team is the car they choose to do battle in. In September of 2005, we chose to start our build on a fresh 2000 Mustang GT that had only 22k miles of weekend use. This platform was chosen as it fit the American Iron rules set and had several aerodynamic advantages with off the shelf body work that was readily available and had extensive testing in a wind tunnel with Ford Racing on their limited edition, for race only, 2000 Cobra R. Other Vintage Mustang models and Camaros were not considered as they didn’t have the aftermarket offering for specialized road racing parts or were outdated to be competitive in today’s racing arena. One item that was a huge advantage was the availability of a modern all aluminum overhead cam V8 direct from Ford that met the limit of the rules and had several weight advantages. In 2006, this combination was put to the test in it’s first race and scored 4 podium finishes in it’s first weekend on track against PROVEN competitors who had been in the series for 2 or more years. After some initial sorting, the car saw it’s first win in just it’s third weekend and in the first 40 minute American Iron race ever. Since 2006, the car has gone through 3 major developmental additions that have made it even more competitive and has made it one of the most successful cars in American Iron in the USA….and we continue to get faster!

Our Driver and Team Owner: A race team would not be complete without the right driver behind the wheel with the desire to win! Matt White had been competing and winning in regional AutoX events since 2002 with great success and made his inaugural step into Door to Door road racing in February 2006. He has developed a reputation of being a very fast and very clean driver that can routinely claim a spot on the podium. In 53 races, he has scored 48 podiums, 26 wins, and only 3 DNF’s. He claimed rookie of the year in 2006 and only missed winning the regional championship by 20 points out of 1800. He claimed the 2007 AIX regional Championship and now holds several AI and AIX track records in the #97 Mustang. In 2008, Matt took 6th place at the NASA AI National Championships after starting 12th and running as high as 4th place by lap #5!!! He was also a member of the winning team of the 24 Hours of Lemons Texas in an 87’ FX16 GTS that was race prepared by MEM, and nearly repeated in 2009 with a 4th place finish! Our plan is to be the first two time winner in the August race! Mr. White also instructs at several High Performance Driving Schools where students get a taste of driving on a race track in a controlled environment with an instructor in the car to keep them safe. He has been recognized as one of the premier drivers in the Southwest and has worked for Maserati and Lamborghini for customer appreciation days. His talent and reputation for winning continues to grow!
